Living In America, Banking In The UK
If you’ve bought a condo or similar property in Florida, but you’re a UK resident you may have had to set up a mortgage facility overseas. Doing this kind of regular payment in a foreign currency used to be a bit of a bind for those people who owned property abroad, but with the development of online foreign exchange brokers it’s become much simpler.
You can organise to buy foreign currency from hifx.co.uk quickly and easily once you’ve set up an account with HiFX. Registering for an account is also straightforward and it doesn’t take more than a few minutes. If you are a UK resident, you don’t even need to send proof of identity documents – all you need to do is put in your driving licence or passport number and HiFX will do the checks using this information.
The amount you can transfer online ranges from a minimum of £50 to a daily maximum of £300,000, which gives plenty of scope for the average individual daily transaction. You can really take control of your international money transfers from www.hifx.co.uk as you can get a quote on the amount you want to exchange in seconds, and when you’re happy with the quote, you can then pay either by BACS or credit or debit card.
Having an account with HiFX or a similar company is great for those people who have property abroad. Unless you let it on a full time basis, it’s reasonable to assume that you will spend a fair amount of the year in your second home, and while you’re there you’ll need money to live on. Even when you’re not there, having a HiFX account makes it easy to pay bills for utilities and taxes in the local currency.
The days of having to queue up at the foreign exchange desk at the bank and being forced to accept the exchange rate that was offered to you are long gone. You can decide what day to make your transfers and make sure that you get the best possible rate.
Mercury Spacecraft – Friendship 7
Mercury Spacecraft - Friendship 7 (1:72 scale) - February 2012 marked the anniversary of NASA's first ever manned orbital flight, which occurred 50 years ago. Dragon is celebrating this auspicious event with a 1/72 scale model of the spacecraft that performed this legendary feat. An Atlas LV-3B launch vehicle blasted off from Cape Canaveral on 20 February 1962 carrying a spacecraft known as Mercury Friendship 7. The flight lasted a mere four hours and 56 minutes, circling the globe three times at a velocity of 7,843m/s before the capsule reentered orbit. The sole occupant of the NASA mission was astronaut John Glenn and the Friendship 7 craft eventually splashed down safely in the Atlantic Ocean. Although the Soviets had performed the same feat the previous year, it was an important step for NASA in the race to put man on the Moon. Today this famous spacecraft remains on display at the National Air and Space Museum in Washington D.C.
Dragon's 1/72 scale model depicts the Mercury-6 spacecraft at its launch. The model of call sign "Friendship 7" is accurately constructed and painted, and the correct series of markings are in place. With the miniature model's release coinciding with the flight's 50th anniversary, this is the perfect item for space fans to commemorate this important milestone in the history of American, and world, spaceflight.
