This will cover safety, and an introduction to some of the controls. Once in the plane, your flying lesson starts from the time the engine turns over. You will be given headphones so that you can hear conversations between your instructor and air traffic control, and so that you can talk with your instructor. Once in the air, you will be able to take the controls but your pilot will generally land the plane and taxi back.Need to know: Minimum age 12-14 depending on location (under 18s need parental/guardian consent) Flying time only counts towards a Private Pilot's licence if you are over 14 years old You should be in reasonable health and agile enough to climb into the aircraft Minimum height 4-5 (122cms-152cms), max height 64-67 (193cms-201cms) depending on location. If the instructor feels confident that his new student is ready you will even be able to take the controls and get the thrill of piloting the aircraft. You will be sat in the driving seat and the instructor will do some pre flight checks taxi the plane to the runway and take off! Once airborne you will be taught basic manoeuvres and controls to take complete command of the plane. The aircraft is fitted with dual control so the instructor can assist whenever necessary. The experience will last for 20 minutes. Family and friends are welcome to come along and watch you fly.

At this point, the pilot hands control of the plane over to you. Subject to clearance by air traffic control, it may even be possible to take a detour during your flying lesson and fly over your home! Your flying lesson can also count towards a Private Pilot's licence if you wish. The instructor will land the aircraft and taxi back in for chocks-on. And don't forget to take a camera up with you on your flying lesson - the views are fantastic at 2000 feet!
